Atem (yami) with the 3 gods by Lyswen Atem (yami) with the 3 gods by Lyswen
My second, and last piece for this evening. pharaoh Atem. Most people, not familiar with all the yu gi oh episodes, will recognize Yami! (read these articles for more bg! [link] [link]

and ofcourse, with the 3 Egyptian gods, Slyfer the sky dragon, Obelisk the tormentor and the winged dragon of ra.

I always was impressed by the gods. As a child, I always tried to draw them, especially the winged dragon of ra, but then ofcourse, I wasn't nearly good enough to draw it well! :D

.. Not that this is a fullbody, but Anyways! :D I like it's outcome!

the original one will be sold at FACTS convention 2012, Ghent at Belgium this weekend! (ofcourse without all the photoshop editing) Prints won't be available however!!

Like, maybe you should use a reference of his face. It looks sort of demented. His nose should be pointier, and his eyes should look darker (and by darker, I mean he should look like he's wearing eyeliner)

I appreciate your feedback. But no, I don't agree with you. I don't draw birdbeaks for noses (even if it is according to the yugioh style), and even if it was an egyptian custom of wearing eyeliner, I think it is used too much, certainly in the manga/anime culture. It draws to much attention to the eyes, whereas the attention should be in the entire picture. it was my decision to draw Atem this way.

... and for the record, telling me that I drew a demented person, is not only an insult to me, or people who are realy impaired with this terrible condition, it realy lacks constructivism which is key in these comments. I suggest that you look into that one before making harsh comments again no matter how old you are.

I actually really like this drawing, I just noticed that Atem's face didn't look right. And you also forgot to add in his eyebrow XDD. Plus his eye doesn't exactly look right, it looks quite small. Using real life references help for anatomy, proportion, and perspective issues (liek me LOL). Also, his 'lightning bolt' hair doesn't exactly look right either. Just compare you're drawing with a ref of Yami, and you'll see the mistakes. Plus I sort of agree that Yami does wear too much eyeliner LOLOL.

ah! This is mor constructive!

Still, I don't realy follow your statement about the anatomy. It's not a real human face, yes, and it doesn't look completely like yami. It's a stylized version of him, according to my own style, knowledge, and the general feel of this picture as I wanted it to be.
So, instead of mistakes, I want to refer to them as adaptations. All my fanart related works are never completely how the creatures/persons looks like in the film/tv-series, nor do they look like those anatomical drawings you find in books. and that's fine! It's a mix up with styles and knowledge, and that makes a drawing unique and creative in my opinion. Not how much the thing looks like the characters you watch on tv, or the drawings in your books. ... And believe me, I know my share in anatomy, animation etc. I'm a 3rd year animator, praised for my playfullness with styles, body and motion. It's all about playing with the strickt rules you know, and the emotions, flow that you want to put into your work that makes something unique.

that's why I realy refuse to draw fanart with the exact same looks/poses/feels like you would have if you saw a still from the original makers... for me, it's anything but original. It can be a great study though, but the danger with that, is that you'll draw somebody elses his/her style, not aible to find your own. for me, that's just plain dull.
